Absolutely not. We have students stepping on the mat for the first time in their 40s and 50s. Because BJJ relies on leverage and mechanics rather than brute strength, you can train hard and safely at any age. Go at your own pace.
You don't get in shape to start BJJ; you start BJJ to get in shape. It's totally fine if you need to take breaks during your first few weeks. We will build your stamina up naturally in a highly supportive environment.
It's the safest full-contact martial art in the world. There's no striking (punching or kicking). If you get caught in a submission, you tap out, reset, and go again. Safety and respect for our training partners are non-negotiable rules here.
Zero experience is required. Everyone remembers their first day. Our Beginner Classes will walk you through the very basics—how to fall safely, how to move, and core techniques—step-by-step from day one.
